Information Desks
The Librarians at our Information Desks are always pleased to help you find items or information and to answer your questions.
Newspapers and Magazines
All major New Zealand dailies for current and previous month are provided. Use Press Display to read online current issues of major national and international newspapers and magazines.
The Northern Advocate from 1887 to present and other local newspapers are available in the Northland Room.
Robert Harris Cafe
Adjacent to the Newspapers and Magazines area on the ground floor.
The cafe is open:
- 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays
- 9 am to 1 pm on Saturdays
- 10 am to 1 pm on Sundays.
Art Lounge at the Library
Enjoy your coffee among displays of artefacts from the Whangarei Art Museum and Whangarei artists, photographers and crafts people.
Computers and Internet
There are computers available for a small fee for using the Internet, email or Microsoft Office applications, e.g. word processing or spreadsheets.
Printing facilities are also provided.
Our Librarians are happy to help you with the basics of using these.
WiFi is available - either through Northland WIFi (free for 1 hour) or Telecom Hotspot services.
E-Learning Centre
Computers are available free of charge for homework, writing a CV or career information. Ask at the Information desk for access to these computers.
The E-Learning Centre can be booked for group visits.

Māori Room
The Maori Room collection includes items for lending and reference:
books, magazines, newspapers, CDs, microfiche and sound recordings plus the Tai Tokerau Maori Land Court Minute Books.
Audio visual resources in this collection are free to borrow.
The New Zealand Film Archive
Free access to the New Zealand Film Archive is available through Medianet, a computer based digital video resource. By simply pointing and clicking you can watch New Zealand made films on historical events to movie and TV entertainment.

Genealogy Room
Volunteers from the Whangarei branch of the New Zealand Genealogy Society, who are experts in the field are available to help you with your family research in the Genealogy Room during the following times:
- Monday: 10.00 am to 3.00 pm
- Tuesday to Friday: 10 am to 4 pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 10.00 am to 1.00 pm
Births, deaths and marriages information is available on micro media while other resources are also provided.

Here you will find a historical collection of New Zealand books both fiction and non fiction, selected New Zealand magazines, maps, historical government documents and audio visual material.

Meeting Room - May Bain Room
A meeting room situated on the first floor available for hire to community groups, businesses and individuals. It can seat up to 50 people with audio visual facilities supplied if required.
