Fiction
Adult fiction collection
The adult fiction collection aims to provide a wide range of fiction from literary fiction through to high profile popular fiction. This encompasses works by all major English-language fiction writers and recognised non-English authors in translation.
Fiction titles with predominant themes are sorted into genres to ensure that library users can easily access the type of material they prefer.
Copies of new titles published by a range of popular authors, selected on the basis of high usage by our library members are received on standing order. Suppliers automatically send all new titles from authors on our list. This list is reviewed annually.
Bestseller collection
The Bestseller collection provides quick access to the most popular, newly published books. Titles are in this section for four months and have a rental charge with a loan period of one week. They are also available in the free lending collection for those who wish to use the request service.
Non-fiction
The general non-fiction Collection aims to provide a lending collection of up-to-date and stimulating books on a wide range of subjects for the general reader.
Stack collection
Books more than 10 years old that have continuing value are moved to the Stack collection, or in the case of New Zealand material, to the New Zealand Room.
Large print
The Large Print collection includes both fiction and non-fiction books as well as magazines. It is mainly targeted at those who find it difficult to read standard print, although the collection is free for everyone. There is a mix of hardcover and softcover books to suit different needs. We aim to have as big a range of different books as possible, rather than several copies of the same book.
