Whangarei Libraries boast a large magazine collection providing a range of general, popular and special interest New Zealand and international magazines for relaxation and enjoyment. It also supplements the non-fiction book collections in some subjects.  We try to be as responsive as possible to local community trends and interests.

Our branch libraries and the Mobile Library all have a selection of magazines tailored to their communities. All loan copies of magazines are available to request from any of our library locations.

We cover a huge range of topics and all age groups:

  • for adults the majority of current issues for each magazine title are kept for use in the library only. Previous issues are freely available to borrow.
  • for children and teens
  • Maori magazines in the Maori Room at Whangarei Central Library include copies of 'Mana', 'Tu Mai' and 'Te Karaka' for both reference and loan.
  • Large Print - Reader’s Digest magazines
  • other languages including 'Le Nouvel Observateur' in French and 'Der Spiegel' in German.
In the World Languages section there is Chinese 'Reader’s Digest' and 'Korea Times'.

You can also access magazines from New Zealand and overseas on the internet. Follow the link below:
