Friends of the Library

This section contains information about the Friends of the Library, including what it is, why libraries need friends, what they do and how to join.

The Whangarei Friends group is very active in arranging events and displays at the Whangarei Central Library and supporting Whangarei Libraries in general.

Why do Libraries need Friends?

  • an organised friends group is living proof of a library's value in the community
  • an active and informed citizens lobby can be the greatest asset a library can have
  • each Friend is a public relations communicator for the Libraries
  • Friends assist in maintaining good service to the public and where appropriate offer feedback.

What do the Whangarei Friends do?

The Whangarei Friends regularly arrange special interest lectures, activities, displays and musicians to entertain customers, at the Whangarei Central Library.

Interested in joining?

Membership of the Friends group is open to individuals, families and organisations interested in promoting the Whangarei Libraries.

Annual membership is $5.00 for individuals and $10.00 for families.  

Membership forms are available in our Libraries or email us your name and contact details to: whglibrary@wdc.govt.nz
