Babies and preschooler’s programmes
Mums, dads and random grownups, bring your preschoolers and babies to our weekly Funtimes in the Children’s room. These sessions include music, movement, action songs, stories and craft.
The sessions are free and no bookings are necessary.
Preschool Funtimes
The library has a ‘baby change’ room for convenience and many parents stay behind and chat after the session, sometimes in the children’s room and sometimes in the café.
Reading programmes
Every year during the summer school holidays the library runs The Great Summer Challenge reading programme which is designed for children of all aged from 5 to 12.
The aim of the programme is to encourage children to keep reading throughout the school holidays to avoid a slump in their reading ability. The programme runs over a 5 week period.
Children register at the beginning of the holidays when they are given a pack which includes a contract document, reading log and fun activity sheets.
Each child negotiates a goal with the librarian and signs a contract to this effect. The children read at home and keep a log of what they have read.
The programme ends with a prize-giving and grand finale.
This programme is very popular with both parents and children.
