The Great Summer Challenge school holiday programme

  • Reading and Challenges for all ages

  • Complete Challenges and be in to win! (scroll down to find all the Challenges).

How to get started

  • Register by completing the Challenge 1 Reading form with a Whangarei Libraries librarian or your teacher (check if your school is participating in the programme).

    Please note: If you register at school, please visit Whangarei Central Library to confirm your registration.

Registration times

  • Whangarei Central Library: Monday to Friday between 10 am and 5 pm
  • Kamo, Onerahi & Tikipunga Libraries: Monday to Friday during opening hours
    Please note: You may be asked to wait a while at the branch libraries if the librarians are busy
  • The Mobile Library: When it’s in your area

What you do

  • Read at home, or at the beach or a place of your choice.
  • Keep a reading log. Download and print reading log sheets from the link below:

  • Ask your parents/caregiver to sign your reading log for each book you read.
  • You can write reviews for your favourite books. Download and print a Book Review sheet from the link below:

Sending Challenges to the Library

Make sure your completed Challenge sheets and other items all have your name on them.

  • Take them to any branch of Whangarei Libraries
  • or scan and email to: with The Great Summer Challenge typed in the subject field.

Important dates

  • Tuesday 10 January 2017 Registration closes.

  • Wednesday 18 January 2017 Last day to return completed Reading Log, Book Reviews, Challenge Sheets and any Challenge Items to the library so that your prizes will be ready for the Grande Finale.

  • Tuesday 24 January 2017  Grand Finale - Prize Giving and Magic Show:
    10 am in Children’s Room, Whangarei Central Library.
