The name Ecobob is derived from the word ‘eco’, an abbreviation for ‘ecologically friendly’ and the acronym ‘bob’ which stands for ‘best of both’.
Our philosophy is that it is possible to have ‘the best of both worlds’ in terms of living in harmony and balance with our environment while still enjoying the comforts of technology and modern living.
Ecobob is a web site, developed to make eco friendly living easy, provides users with an easy way of accessing information on environmentally friendly living.
It includes profiles of eco houses, a listing of businesses providing eco living products and services, a range of information articles on eco living and an online community for people to share ideas and connect on eco living topics.
• Transition Towns
http://www.transitiontowns.org.nz/
Transition Town initiatives are bringing people together out of a desire to explore how we - and our communities - can respond to the twin challenges of climate change and peak oil. We know we don’t have all the answers but we believe we have the innovation to create those solutions.
Each transition group networks with their local community on a coordinated range of projects designed to transition from high energy to low energy lifestyles in a positive and creative manner.
Our aim is to re-localise our communities, making them vibrant, resilient and truly sustainable.
A substantial number of towns, including Whangarei & Tutukaka are working on peak oil and climate change education, and localisation initiatives in New Zealand.
