The judges for the 2010 Man Booker Prize for Fiction have announced the longlist for the prize, the leading literary award in the English speaking world.

The Whangarei Mid Winter Arts Festival 2010 is holding a photography competition for both amateur and professional photograhers to celebrate the uniquely diverse ways we experience life in Northland.
  
The categories are:
1 Northland – What being in Northland means to you.
2 Youth (under 20 years) – A window to your world; what’s important to you.
3 International – An image that celebrates your culture.
4 Professional - Celebrating Northland.
 

The photographs are being exhibited at Whangarei Central Library until 1st August 2010. The public can buy prints of these photographs for $5 each with winners determined by the number of prints purchased. The winners will be announced on 1st August 2010 during the closing ceremony of the Mid Winter Arts Festival.

This photo competition is held in partnership with Whangarei Libraries, Whangarei Friends of the Library and Calders Design and Print.

Rugby World Cup  2011 Volunteers logo
Rugby World Cup 2011 Volunteers Campaign

 

Rugby New Zealand is looking for 5,000 volunteers to help host the Rugby World Cup in September next year.

Mobile Library will be off the road . . .
 

The Mobile Library will be out of service for maintenance from 9 to 15 August 2010. Normal services will resume again on 16 August. Please check the timetables to find out when the Mobile Library will be visiting your area.

Library Book Club Meetings
 
If you are interested in taking in part in our Library Book Clubs please register on the waiting list either by sending an email to Gaylene Town-Treweek and include your name with your daytime phone number or by leaving your name and contact details at the Information Desks at any of our libraries.
 
Afternoon Book Club meets at 1 to 3 pm on the 1st Monday of each month. The next meeting will be on 2 August 2010.

Free 30 minute sessions of active movement
for babies from birth to crawling.

Sessions are held in the Children's Room at Whangarei Central Library every Wednesday from 2 to 2.30 pm.
Note sessions are not held during the school holidays.
