Overdue items
If borrowed items are not returned by the due date, overdue charges will apply at the rates listed below:
Non rental items
- 40 cents per item per day
The maximum overdue charge is $10.
Rental items
Per item per day:
- 50 cents
- DVDs: Movie, TV series and Children's
- $1.10
- Bestseller books
- DVDs: New Release
The maximum overdue charge for these items is $20.
Prolonged failure to return items
If an item is not returned or renewed by the due date we will send you a reminder notice when the item is 3 days overdue.
After a period of the item being overdue, you will incur a $8.50 administration charge plus the replacement value of the non-returned item.
The matter may be referred to a debt collecting agency.
If the item is returned you will only have to pay the overdue charges to the date of return.

Paying Fines
Fines can be paid using Internet banking.
Payment is made to Whangarei District Council bank account number: 12-3115-0040516-002
Council is set up as a bill payee with your bank. Search for Whangarei in the payee list on your bank's website and select WHANGAREI DISTRICT COUNCIL - LIBRARY from the list of payee options.
Please include the following information:
- Your surname and initials
- Library card number
