How to become a member of Whangarei District Libraries, types of membership and conditions of membership.

It's free to join the library
Whangarei District Council ratepayers and residents
Library membership expires every 2 years when you will need to contact us to update your membership details and reactivate your library card.
If you live outside the district you can join for free for one year.
Joining Whangarei District Libraries
It is easy to join online.
Complete the online registration form and get temporary membership which will give you access to our online library services.
We will email you a temporary library membership ID followed with a library card number, which will expire after 180 days if enrolment is not completed.

Find the online registration form in the library catalogue
Click on either lick on either Log In or My Account links in the top blue banner of the library catalogue which opens Whangarei District Libraries member log in window.
Click on the blue Join the Library link below the Log In button to open the Online Registration form window.
Fill in your details ensuring you have entered details in the required fields (with the red asterisk) and click the Join the Library button.
Children and young people under 18 years
Young people are required to have a guarantor who is an adult member of Whangarei District Libraries. See Junior membership details below.
To complete enrolment and pick up your library card
This requirement is suspended until further notice:
Visit any of our libraries (Whangarei Central, Kamo, Onerahi, Tikipunga or the Mobile Library) with your ID, such as driver's license, passport, Community Services card or NZ SuperGold card.
Guarantors must be present with young people under 18 years to complete enrolment.
Your library card will be available 2 working days after you have completed and submitted the online enrolment form.

Bring your ID and we can sign you up there and then - it just takes a few minutes.
Junior membership
Children and young people under 18 years need to have a guarantor to join the library.
This requirement is suspended until borrowers can access the library to borrow physical items: books, talking books, DVDs, CDS and jigsaw puzzles.
Guarantors must be adult members of Whangarei District Libraries who agree to take responsibility for, and to pay upon demand, all damages, fines, administration charges and replacement costs that are incurred as a result of the borrowers' failure to meet such obligations.
The guarantor must be present in the library to sign the membership enrolment form. We can enrol the guarantor and young person up at the same time.
Out of District membership
If you live outside the Whangarei District you can join for free for 1 year.
Membership conditions
You are responsible for all items borrowed on your library card, including items borrowed by other people using your card
Notify us immediately if you lose your card or if it is stolen
Return all items borrowed on your card by the due date in the same condition they were in when borrowed (except for fair wear and tear)
Agree to pay on demand all damages, fines, administration charges and replacement costs that are incurred as a result of failure to meet these conditions
